The school Mixte La Modestie
The school was founded in 2014 by Massé Dieudonné in the small commune of Cabaret, located northwest of Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Depending on the year and the (very unstable) situation in the country, it welcomes between 50 and 100 students, from kindergarten to CM2 (kindergarten/primary equivalent).
There are 5 teachers, including Massé Dieudonné who is also the school’s director.
The building was constructed with limited means, and consists of corrugated iron and wooden planks. The floors are plain dirt floors, and the furniture is systematically deteriorated due to repeated flooding (hurricanes and storms are commonplace in Haiti).
The children and teachers work in precarious conditions with no close access to toilets.
The school is adjacent to the small church built in 2017 with donations from the Korean church.
Multi-level projects
On The Short Term
Rebuilding the school
Priority is given to a sustainable reconstruction of the building, i.e. concrete floors, breeze-block walls, a solid roof, and doors and windows.
Construction of toilets
We are also planning to build toilets to provide an acceptable level of hygiene for children and staff.Multi-level projects
In The Medium Term
The furniture
Desks and tables had been built following the sending of funds by Our World Project in 2020. Unfortunately, the successive bad weather, with the rains flooding the school, ended up permanently deteriorating this new furniture.
After the reconstruction of the school, priority will be given to equipping the classrooms with new furniture, in order to create an environment conducive to teaching and learning.

Operating Costs
Salaries
It is essential that the teaching, support and maintenance staff are guaranteed a regular salary commensurate with their work.
At present, 6 salaries are needed to run the school: the director, 4 teachers, and 1 maintenance person.
School Supplies
An update will be given on the school needs this year, bearing in mind that Shelley Gage had sent a substantial stock of supplies last year.
Meals
We would also like to be able to offer one meal a day to the pupils at the school.
Indeed, feeding the children is one of the conditions for their regular attendance. Providing them with a meal is an incentive for parents to send them to school every day.
