The Origins

The story begins on February 17, 2009, the day Sandrine met her daughter Luna for the first time, whom she adopted in Haiti. Since that day, she stays in touch with Massé and Miracle Dieudonné, Luna’s biological parents, and regularly supports them with online fundraising campaigns that she spreads on social networks, among her family and friends. In February 2017, Sandrine and Luna returned to Haiti for the first time to see the biological family again. The reunion is an obvious and immense happiness for all. It is during that visit, while spending a week with the family in Cabaret, that Sandrine and Luna participate in the daily life of the small school (Ecole Mixte La Modestie) that Massé and Miracle founded 3 years earlier, with their very modest means, within their community in Cabaret. Massé is also the pastor of the small community and has built a church adjacent to the school.

« We were able to share the daily life of Luna’s family and had the pleasure of participating in the life of the school every morning.
I was able to see the work, the commitment and the generosity of Luna’s parents towards the children of this community. They are paid very little, receive no help or funding from the city or the region, and it is a daily struggle to keep the school open (pay the teachers, buy supplies, etc.). »

Evolution et Creation

Upon returning from this trip, Sandrine is seeking a sustainable way to financially support the school.

She approached the NGO Our World Project, founded by Hartmut Finke in Germany in 2019, with whom she will carry out several actions and fundraising activities that will allow Massé to finalize the purchase of the land on which the school is located, the purchase of equipment and school supplies, materials for the construction of furniture for the school, the payment of salaries … this for 2 consecutive years.
It was planned to make the trip to Haiti in order to establish a sustainable action plan for the future of the school. However, due to the chaotic situation in Haiti over the past few years, going there is dangerous and impossible at this time.
The collaboration with OWP has been suspended until further notice.

In parallel, Shelley Gage, a French teacher in Los Gatos (California) and a good friend of Sandrine’s, has been leading actions every year since 2019 within her middle school (Raymond J. Fisher Middle School) and with the help of her students, to send school supplies and raise funds for the school.

In 2022, Sandrine decided to create the Association Timoun Haiti to continue to support La Modestie Mixed School, formalize the project and centralize the actions.

The Association Timoun Haiti was created on November 2, 2022 under the number W372019403, with Ivana Milovanovic, Séverine Parizot-Bertault and Luna Budestschu.
